It’s Sunday football and I am under duress as I watch so I must switch gears and think of baking. As far as I’m concerned Fall baking is upon us and that means the use of one of my favorite spice blends. Apple Pie Spice – September Featured Ingredient is that blend. However, do you know apple pie spice can be used for more than baked goods. If you’re thinking of baked apple pie, think again.

Use For More Than Baked Apple Pie

First, I’ve seen questions asked about what is apple pie spice? Well, it’s a combination of several spices to make this blend. This blend totally aromatic yet gentle and bursting  in flavor. It lends that warm apple spice flavor to baked goods and a wonderful flavor to your favorite fall recipes. I love cooking with warm spices this time of year and you should too. A great replacement for plain ground cinnamon.

Big Burst of Flavor; Use Instead of Cinnamon

Did you know you can make your own blend of apple pie spice? It contains cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice, and cardamom. There are recipes all over the internet for you to try. Yet I highly recommend Penzeys Apple Pie Spice. I find it’s the perfect blend of a fresh ground, smooth flavor burst.

My Apple Brown Sugar Bacon – #getinmybelly

My suggestions for using this spice blend is on bacon for Apple Brown Sugar Bacon which I will post soon. Mix brown sugar and apple spice together then coat thick sliced bacon. Bake at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes. It’s crazy delicious! May I also suggest muffins, pancakes, quick breads, winter squash such as butternut, cookies, oatmeal and homemade applesauce. As you can see the possibilities are endless. Go ahead and have some fun creating your favorite uses. See ya again soon!
