“Chewy-Crunchy Sugar Cookies”

Took a few days off this week and of course the weather was crappy so what better time to break out a favorite cookie recipe. I have been making this recipe for as long as I can remember but have not shared it with you yet. I have used my Chewy-Crunchy Sugar Cookies recipe for every occasion, holiday, party, potluck, you name it. This recipe is also fun for kids to make because the ease of baking these cookies plus they will love rolling the cookie dough in the colored sugar. I call this “a can’t miss recipe” because of its versatility.

Chewy-Crunchy Sugar Cookies

The flavor of Chewy-Crunchy Sugar Cookies is both buttery and a hint of vanilla. Who doesn’t love butter and sugar? The texture is both chewy in the middle and crunchy on the edges. One of my favorite recipes during the holidays because they look so pretty with red and green decorating sugar coating. Decorating sugar on the outside gives the cookie a nice crispness as well.

As you can see, I turned these cookies into a Halloween treat. I actually dropped off a huge container for everyone at my workplace today. Using purple, orange and black decorating sugar, I rolled each cookie sheet in a different color to have equal amounts of each color. I actually tripled my recipe (about 15 dozen). Another reason my Chewy-Crunchy Sugar Cookies is a gem of a recipe.

The second reason this recipe is a perfect go-to is the ease of making a delicious batch of cookies really quick. Make sure butter is softened before mixing with sugar to cream mixture until light and fluffy. Add in egg and vanilla. Slowly add in flour mixture and mix until combined. Heat your oven while preparing cookie sheets by covering with parchment paper. Roll cookie dough into 1-inch balls and each in rolling decorating sugar. Bake and let cool a couple of minutes on cookie sheet before removing to wire cooling rack. Now grab the kids, a glass of milk and enjoy!

It’s never too late to bake up a batch or two of Chewy-Crunchy Sugar Cookies. Let the kids join you in the kitchen by measuring flour and other ingredients, tearing parchment paper, rolling the cookie dough, rolling dough in sugar and placing on cookie sheet. Watch the little hands around the oven though to prevent burns. Totally perfect for a day of family baking fun. Reminds me of baking with my Mom when I was a kid as it was one of my favorite Saturday activities with her. Make memories with family and friends to cherish while creating a sensational cookie that will have every cookie lover asking for the recipe. Happy Baking!
