Cookies, cookies and more cookies is what you’ll find my recommended Cookbook of the Month – December 2020. You can never have too many cookie books so Chewy, Gooey, Crispy, Crunchy by Alice Medrich is one to add to your collection this holiday season. I love baking cookies year around just like when I was a kid. Trust me the recipes in this cookbook will become part of new baking traditions with the family.

As much as cookie recipes seem to be the same, each recipe has its own character. The cookies in this cookbook are literally melt-in-your-mouth-incredible. I’m all about texture when it comes to baking cookies. Cookies have personality and entice you with each bite. Baking for me and should be for you an adventure. Having a spirit of fun while baking even when you have dietary restrictions is a must. Your cookies will taste of love.

New inventions and updating traditional recipes is what Alice’s cookie book is all about. Some of my favorites are crispy Goldies (page 48) which can be filled with creme fillings or jams yet delicious plain and crunchy Cornmeal and Fruit Biscotti (page 86) which are fabulous with coffee or tea. I never get tired of a good ginger cookie so try chewy My Ginger Cookies (page 154) as the ginger flavor is out of this world. On the gooey side, try Macadamia Shortbread Brownies (page 232) for a cookie-crust, brownie top. Yum! Try flakey Rugelach (page 248) for a delicious tradition to any cookie platter. Melt-in-your-mouth is never better with Chestnut Walnut Meringues (page 282).

The last section of the cookie book is called Components and includes buttercreams, sugars, sauces, fillings, and crusts. Alice even talks about the ingredients used in her recipes which I found to be a nice addition for both novice and experienced bakers. Create a beautiful dessert table with recipes from this cookbook for your family and watch eyes light up. Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday!
