Cookbook of the Month – March 2022

Hey there! Can you believe it’s March already? That means time for my Cookbook of the Month – March 2022 recommendation. March had me thinking of Irish food and those who follow me know I love all cuisines especially comfort foods. I grew up on meat and potato meals my Mom cooked and my Dad had to have. Irish food is rich and may contain several ingredients I question. Yet have no fear as I bring you the recipes I enjoy and think you will too. As with any cuisine, the Irish cook something for everyone.

The cookbook for March is “Real Irish Food by David Bowers” with 150 classic recipes from what he calls the old country. The cookbook is available as a Kindle read or paperback on Amazon. Checkout your local library for a copy as well. First about green beer and mushy cabbage when you think Irish. No. This cuisine if far more than you think.

Real Irish food is full of soda bread, meaty dishes with gravy, carrots which are beloved, vegetables, golden crusts on pies and tarts, and crispy potato cakes. Is your mouth watering yet? As you flip through the pages of this book, I have no doubt you’ll find a few delectable recipe you must try.

This book was published in 2012 and contains many tried and true recipes. Follow the content from breakfast to snacks, stews and chowders, fish, seafood, meats, poultry and game. You’ll also find vegetable and side dishes, breads, desserts, preserves and sauces. Read stories on what makes Irish food so special. Did you know only white pepper was the only pepper available in Ireland. Black pepper did not arrive until the 1960’s. Who knew? Influenced by tradition and sentiment, Irish food means home cooking, careful and sometimes frugal preparations eaten all the time.
