Cookbook of the Month – May 2017

As May approaches, I always feel like it’s the month in which Summer celebrations begin. We’re taking about graduations, Mother’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, outdoor barbecues, birthdays, and picnics with friends and family. I’m sure I’ve left out some sort of celebration but whatever your occasion it is about Summertime fun. Enjoying life and celebrating with family and friends. So my Cookbook of the Month – May 2017 is Frontera: Margaritas, Guacamoles and Snacks by renowned chef Rick Bayless has incredible recipes. Following him since the beginning, no one knows or has informed us more about Mexican food. His cookbooks are truly an inspiration.

When Rick first introduced us to authentic Mexican food, many ingredients were not found locally. That is not the case any longer. You can walk into just about any produce market and find what you’re looking for. And if not locally there are many online resources. Rick even has a line of his own food products and online recipes found here, not to mention 9 cookbooks full of wonderful recipes.

Party Over Here! –
Cookbook of the Month – May 2017

In choosing Frontera: Margaritas, Guacamoles and Snacks as my recommendation for Cookbook of the Month – May 2017, I was thinking Spring and Summer fun creating easy, flavorful party foods. Recipes found in Frontera are his most requested offerings from the acclaimed restaurant of the same name. Margaritas for every season can be found in this cookbook along with memorable modern twists on single cocktails to pitchers of mixed drinks are available. Recommendations of tequila and mezcal brands are available, too. I think that means party’s on. A favorite cocktail is the Orange-Passion Fruit Cocktail on page 133. Delicious!

Listening to the news lately, seems like avocados will cost us more but the recipes for Guacamoles in this cookbook are unforgettable and worth the few extra pennies. Guacamole is the perfect accompaniment to Margaritas and vice versa. Who can resist? Grilled Corn and Poblano Guacamole on page 174 is a favorite with slight heat but highly addictive. Make sure you prepare a big batch because before you know it the serving bowl will be empty.

Judge for yourself as I highly recommend this cookbook for anyone that loves to entertain and create themes for parties. Themes makes the party more fun and will have everyone talking. Create a fabulous fiesta for Cinco de Mayo! All involved will have Good Food, Good Fun, Good Times!
