Cookbook of the Month – November 2019

So what’s your favorite cookie to bake? Would it be chocolate chip, sugar cutouts, molasses, ginger, rugelach, linzer, thumbprints, spritz or bar types? I can’t say I have a favorite type yet rather favorite flavors that say it’s Christmas or Happy Holidays. Holiday baking tends to have certain spices you expect when you take a bite of sweet treats. My Cookbook of the Month – November 2019 is Cookies Unlimited by Nick Malgieri. Yes, two cookie books back to back. You can never have too many cookie recipes especially if you bake numerous cookies during the holidays with family and friends.

One of My Favorite Cookie Books

This cookbook was published in 2000 and believe me the recipes are timeless. A good cookie never gets old yet only made better year after year. I have favorites throughout this book like Spicy Oatmeal Walnut Cookies (page 48), Lemon Fruit Swirls (page 97), Gingerbread People (page 117), Orange Almond Biscotti (page 233), and Buttery Anisette Biscotti (page 234).

Every cookie is special for different reasons. The gingerbread recipe can be used with other cookie cutters and not just people. The biscotti recipes are perfect for an after dinner dessert or snack with mulled cider or coffee and last quite a while stored tightly.

A Great Cookie Is The Best Snack

Each one of Nick’s recipes has a story attached letting you know about the origin of each cookie. For me, the recipes are great to share during your annual cookie swaps. Double the batches if you need more cookies depending on how many you need to swap. Since I share with coworkers, about 100 dozen cookies, I need many batches and it takes me about 3 to 4 days to bake them all. I do love it and this year will make 13 years.
