Cookbook of the Month – October 2015
Have favorite cookbooks? Do you use them, or have they become dustables? I’m sure we all do including me with some being used more than others. Then, you have those go-to books passed down, given to you as a gift or one you bought on a recent shopping spree.
Well, I will share an inspirational cookbook with you each month called “Cookbook of the Month”; ones used all the time…ones used for special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, picnics, family gatherings or having friends over for dinner when I feel like entertaining. I really don’t need a reason to be in the kitchen.
Think about the number of recipes in print. Boggles the mind, right?

Consequently, having a cookbook library and yes, I’ve cooked a recipe from most of them, allows for creating new recipes or just enjoying something made over and over again…those go-to’s…know what I mean?
So, my first “Cookbook of the Month” is the “Southern Living 1989 Annual Recipes Cookbook.” My Dad had a subscription to Southern Living magazine recommended by friends. After several years, magazine piles were out of control, according to my Mom and something had to give.
My Dad was excited to find Southern Living (Oxmoor House) published an annual cookbook filled with every recipe from a years’ worth of magazines. Imagine this news was absolute music to my mom’s ears and savior to her living space.
