This cake is every chocolate lovers dream especially if served still slightly warm. The texture is a tender crumb, full-on chocolate flavor and a fudgy frosting frosting sprinkled with flaked sea salt. Yes, it’s that salty-sweet thing going on no one can resist.One bite of this buttery almost creamy cake and you’re hooked. The sprinkling of salt on top will have you running for a second piece.

Even better is you only need a saucepan and a mixing bowl. The cake can be served warm which I love or cooled at room temperature. No matter how you slice it, know each bite is totally addictive and the feeling of #getinmybelly.

if you have young bakers in the household, this is the perfect cake for young bakers. Precious memories of my Mom and I come to mind when I bake this cake. Learning how to stir together ingredients, melt butter, and learning to bake a sheet cake was so much fun. So the temperature outdoors this weekend will be warm yet this cake is worth turning on your oven for about 30 minutes. The cake will be a total delight for anyone loving cake as I do, not to mention the fact it’s chocolate. Go ahead, get to baking this easy,peasy cake and enjoy a slice of heaven. Happy Baking!
Fudge Cake with Salted Fudge Frosting
1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
1/2 cup Dutch-process cocoa (Hershey’s Dark)
1 cup hot water
2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
1 t. baking soda
3/4 t. kosher salt
1/2 cup buttermilk, room temperature
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 t. pure vanilla extract
Frosting:
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup Dutch-process cocoa
6 T. buttermilk, room temperature
4 cups confectioners’ sugar
Maldon Flaked Sea Salt, for sprinkling
Heat oven to 350 degrees then grease and flour a 13×9-inch baking pan.
Melt butter in a medium saucepan and stir in cocoa and hot water.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, soda, and salt.
Pour cocoa mixture into dry ingredients, stirring to combine. Beat in buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla. Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake for 30 minutes or until cake tester inserted comes out clean. The chocolate aroma will appear and the cake will start to pull away from sides of pan.
Remove cake from oven to cooling rack.
For frosting, melt butter in a 2-quart saucepan and stir in cocoa and buttermilk.
Bring mixture to boil, then remove from heat. Mix in confectioners’ sugar, beating until smooth.
Pour frosting over cake while frosting is still warm. Sprinkle frosting with flaked sea salt.
Serve cake from pan.
