“Apple Dumpling Rolls with Spiced Sauce”

First of all, let me apologize for not posting in several weeks. My father passed away rather suddenly four weeks ago, keeping me rather busy emotionally. That said, it’s time for me to get back on track doing what I love. I found today I really missed my happy place and bringing you new and exciting recipes. My last post for February is dessert and what a dessert it is. My Apple Dumpling Rolls with Spiced Sauce came together on a whim to use up apples almost past their prime. It’s the perfect dessert when entertaining or when you’re having a serious sweet attack.

Dad loved something sweet everyday after dinner. Most often Mom would oblige him and most often it was a dessert containing apples. So, the day I created this recipe I had bought apples to make a dessert made withe apples but never got around to it. Since you all know I despise throwing away food unnecessarily, I only needed to make pie crust. Running short on time, I used store-bought since I had some on hand and on a time crunch.

Start this comfort desert by making pie crust or bringing store-bought to room temperature. Just set crust aside until needed. In a large bowl, mix together, diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Divide apples between three 9-inch pie crusts. Roll into logs, sealing both ends, and lay into a 13×9 baking dish. Cit diagonal slits int the tops of each log. If you’re using store-bought, purchase two packages yet you’ll have one extra. Freeze extra crust for a later use up to one month. No worries should you have extra apples because they can be added to the sauce.

In a medium 2-quart saucepan, combine water and sugar and heat over medium-high heat. Add in spices and butter, increase heat, bringing mixture to boil. Boil sauce for 5 minutes then remove from heat. Add in more salt if needed any leftover apples. Pour sauce evenly over dumpling rolls. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 50 to 60 minutes until golden brown and bubbly. Let rolls cool for 25 to 30 minutes before serving with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream among other toppings if desired.

Get ready for the craziest, insanely delicious dessert you may ever taste. Tender apples baked in pastry in a luscious sauce infused with classic flavors of apple filling. Who could resist such an incredible sweet treat? Taste buds, rejoice and enjoy! Leave me a comment on what your favorite dessert is using apples? or #chowdownlowdown with pictures.
