I mentioned cooking with kids because more and more kids are cooking or find it interesting. As popularity grows with Food Network’s kids baking and cooking shows, kids’ are intrigued. And so they should be.

Most of us kitchen lovers find time spent there is totally relaxing and our happy place. Kids have excitement on their faces and smiles in the their hearts. So, why not let them in the kitchen? The weekends are a perfect time to create something yummy.

So, let’s start baking these crazy brownies. The recipe uses a store-bought brownie mix, Pillsbury to be exact. You can use whatever brand you desire yet I like the taste and texture of Pillsbury. Mix brownie batter according to package directions.

Pour 1/2 of the batter into a greased 13×9 baking pan. Do not use glass bakeware. Arrange oreo cookies onto batter in single layer but you can also crumble the cookies and sprinkle over batter. Pour remaining batter over cookies.

Bake and remove to a wire rack. Immediately Sprinkle candy pieces on top of hot brownies and allow to sit for a couple minutes and then press down lightly. As candy pieces melt, spread over brownies if you like. Cool completely, cut and serve. Store any leftovers in an airtight container.

Grab yourself a glass of milk

Three simple store-bought ingredients make a fantastic pan of brownies. Fudge Oreo Brownies are chewy and crunchy because the whole cookies keep their crunch factor. If crumbled cookies are used they will have less crunch.

Most relevant, it doesn’t matter which way these babies are made, whole or crumbled cookie. Sweet chocolatey goodness with a twist you won’t be able to resist. I usually cannot wait until the brownies are completely cool.

Serve the warm brownies with a big scoop of ice cream. Most often you’ll find baking fully from scratch yet sometimes semi-homemade has no shame. Checkout some of my other baked from scratch brownie recipes like White Chocolate Brownies, Bittersweet Black Cocoa Brownies, and Michelle’s Decadent Brownies.

If you know of good shortcuts, use them. One bite and you’ll agree these brownies taste baked from scratch. Come on and have some fun with kids in the kitchen. Happy Baking!
