Seven Spice Powder – May Featured Ingredient

Ever since I began cooking, I have always enjoyed trying new flavors. When I was young, as a family we found a Greek restaurant we liked. My Dad even enjoyed the food which was pretty rare because he was a meat and potatoes kind of man. So trying something new at home was pretty much out of the question. However, Mom, my sister and I were all about the new foods and flavors. If you enjoy the new to spruce up the old, introduce yourself to Seven Spice Powder – May Featured Ingredient.

Comes From 3 Different Regions: Moroccan, Lebanese, and Arabic

Did I mention that there are three regions which produce Seven Spice Powder? First, we have Arabic which contains cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, coriander, cumin, paprika and black pepper. Second is Lebanese which is made up of ginger, cloves, coriander, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice and black pepper. Third is Moroccan with a mix of nutmeg, clove, cardamom, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger and black pepper. All mixes are created with ground spices and most can also be made in your home kitchen. Notice the bold typed spices in each blend. It’s what makes the difference in blends from each region.

What makes these spice blends so much fun to experiment with is you can make adjustments to blends you make on your own. Add more of one spice or lessen the amount of another. Besides, it should be pretty easy to find an assortment in your local market if they sell ethnic ingredients or online. Most recipes consist of 1 Tablespoon of each ground spice to make one blend.

When cooking with each blend, no one blend works in every dish. I love the fact when cooking is the ability to make your food taste the way you like it. A recipe is truly the building block or pattern from which you create from.

Try Moroccan blend on pork or lamb, Lebanese in meatballs or kefta, and Arabic blend is awesome used as a dry rub on meat for grilling. No matter how each blend is used they are all worth a try real soon so you can enjoy some new flavors in your meals and perk up mealtime.
